Buckeye Burl (Aesculus californica) is an unusual species. 

Colors range from blue-black to golden whites with a nice mixture in between. Buckeye is a very difficult and expensive wood to mill.California Buckeye is one of seven types of buckeye tree in North America.
Buckeye Burl is one of our most dramatic woods. The sapwood in our Buckeye Burl tends to be creamy, yellowish, or somewhat darker, and the heartwood is white to blueish-gray ,Black— a most desirable color.Each piece has its own unique and intriguing color, figure and burl.Buckeye Burl from California Exotic Hardwoods. California Buckeye is one of seven types of buckeye tree in North America. There are also related trees in many countries . Buckeye burl is highly prized for the beautiful pattern of burleyes, swirls and other figure.Buckeye can produce a very nice finish,Mostly guitar builders .

Buckeye Burl is a soft, lightweight wood with a fine grain that works well with hand tools.Buckeye can be carefully dried without stabilization, but the wood will be very lightweight . It is challenging to bore, shape, or turn Buckeye with machine tools, but if you can manage,all burl wood is covered by bark. below pictures of live edge slabs of Buckeyeburls  . we have seen some turned pieces that are spectacular.Small buckeye burls  stabilized squares is very famous and popular.

Buckeye Burl is primarily a root .The color spectrum on these pieces ranges widely from blacks and blues to pinks and reds. Get your hands on this gorgeous wood before it’s gone.Buckeye is used for furniture, artificial limbs, signs,  containers, decorative items, guitars  ,musical instruments  and more. Buckeye can be carefully dried without stabilization, but the wood will be very lightweight.

what is burl wood ? 
It is valued and sought after by artists, furniture makers and sculptors. Burl woodcan be found in many tree species and is used in making furniture, different types of veneer, inlays, turning wood, gun stocks, music wood, and other household items.table tops , Live edge slabs , wood working projects , Stabilizing, Stabilized ,

We get the burls in whole and mill them right here at our facility into anything from guitar blanks to turning squares. Most pieces have wonderful burl and swirling grain patterns mixed with blue/grey, black & golden color contrast. Buckeye can produce a very nice finish.All pieces have either natural incursions or bark edges that must be worked around. It is useful to stabilize pen blanks. 

Buckeye is a light-weight but firm-textured wood that is very desirable for carving. The pores are the smallest of any of our hardwood lumber species. The tree typically has a wide sapwood which stains easily.

A burl  or bur or burr or burls ,BURLS  is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds.but buckeye burls see like this .Buckeye Burl grows throughout most of the eastern US and in California on the Buckeye tree. It is relatively soft and light in weight. The Burl is incredibly beautiful - containing burl clusters, amazing color variation, and great character.
